365 Classic – Shot 8

365 Classic - Shot 8

I came across this night shot from 2007 while sorting through my photos last week. It was taken in Durban and was in fact one of my first few shots from my Canon EOS-350D. As i had just accquired the camera, i had no clue of how to go about with the advanced stuff on it but still managed to pull this off handheld! One of those ‘lucky’ shots but worked as great encouragement!

Something i ran into in the North-Eastern India during december 2008. It looked like a pretty interesting scene being desolated with all the fog around adding to the feel and luckily i was carrying my trusty Sony DSC-P200. I decided to tweak it a bit in Photoshop to create an eerie effect.

So i’ve finally made a switch from car shots for now! What i have here is a shot of the Bloukrans Bridge near Nature’s Valley in WEstern Cape, South Africa. Bloukrans Bridge is the highest bridge in Africa, the third highest in the world and the highest single span arch bridge built to date. It’s also home to one of the highest commercially operated bungee jumps in the world, having been the highest for a while before the Macau Tower. I snapped this one during my Garden Route trip in 2006.

Well this should be the last one on cars for now! I shot this scale model Hummer and to add some creativity placed it amongst some rocks while out on a hike. Though i liked the picture as it was shot, a bit of work in Lightroom helped create this final effect. It is really interesting to shoot miniature models in a creative way!

Its a car again for the fourth entry here! I managed to find this unique Corvette C3 parked at the V&A Waterfront Docks in Cape Town last year. I think It probably belongs to one of the cruise operators around there. This was one of my lucky finds as these Classic American Cars are hard to find in South Africa. I worked on the image with some filters to create a dramatic effect.

Still with the cars! Yup, my third entry here is a car as well! Shot this Aston Martin DB9 Coupe in 2010 at the TopGear Live show in Johannesburg and edited a bit in Lightroom. Its safe to say that i do love cars and this show was a visual treat so i ended up with tons of pictures of cool cars. It was also great to watch the TopGear team live in action! It gets better as they are coming back in March 2011 and this time its at a race track! I’ll surely be there and provide the updates on this year’s show!

Well i’m sticking to cars for my 2nd post here at 365 Classic. Please excuse me for a rather blurry shot but it was taken candidly without any composition as the security was ready to throw me out at the sight of my camera! The car you see in this picture belongs to none other than Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, the first South African president who was elected in a fully representative democratic election. The car, a Mercedes Benz S500 was built for Mandela by the employees of Mercedes Benz South Africa while working overtime without accepting any wages for that work. They gifted him the car on his release from prison while he took over as The President. It is now parked at the Aparthied Museum in Johannesburg. I shot this one in 2010 on my second visit to the Museum.

I shot this on the Garden Route, Western Cape, South Africa in 2006. It was way back when i started photography as a hobby without much of an understanding of it! I used the simple yet powerful Sony DSC-P200 camera and let the auto adjustment do most of the work. Though it was just a relaxing holiday in 2006, i realized the potential of The Garden Route for photography a few years later! Now i’ve decided to go back and live it all over again, as a much more learned photographer, still wanting to learn more in this wonderful part of the world. Who knows, i might even come up with a photo travelogue for it!
